Arnold E. E. Gelderman, Obituary

OBITUARIES

Arnold E.E. Gelderman, November 1, 1937 – May 13, 2023 .

Arnold was born during World War II in The Netherlands. He went to school in the Netherlands and Switzerland, and graduated with a doctorandus degree from the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Arnold was a tax attorney and worked for Royal Dutch Shell (Shell Petroleum) in The Hague, London, and Houston, Texas.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn, his daughter Fiona, and his American and Dutch families.
In America: Randy, Colin, Linda, Allison, Lindsay, Mike.

In the Netherlands: sister Albertine (Tina) and her 4 children, two nieces and one nephew from sister Dol, one nephew from brother Joop. And, of course, a lot of old-time beer-drinking friends.
Arnold met his wife Carolyn in 1962 when he was a tour leader and she was a “tour meisje” (tour girl) on his bus. They have one daughter, Fiona, and two wonderful additions: son-in-law Randy and grandson Colin.

Arnold had a wonderful sense of humor. He was known (in almost all of the Netherlands) by his big, boisterous laugh. And his loving manner with those close to him, but also new friends and people who cared for him.

Arnold died in The Pines, a skilled nursing facility, in Carolina Meadows, where he was treated for heart failure and dementia. There will be a memorial service at Carolina Meadows soon.
