Arrest follows shots fired on Franklin Street

CHAPEL HILL – The Chapel Hill Police Department charged a man following shots fired in the 100 block of East Franklin Street just before 6 p.m. There are no reports of injuries.

Officers determined that 37-year-old Joe Antonio Tyson fired shots upward into the air, following an argument with another person. There are no reports of injuries.

“Our downtown officers took this suspect into custody within about three minutes, and we’re grateful that no one was injured,” Chief Celisa Lehew said. “A deadly shooting on Ashley Forest Road this morning and the shots fired on Franklin Street this evening are difficult reminders that gun violence affects everyone, and we will not tolerate it. Our hearts are with the loved ones and community members affected by this violence.”
