COMMUNITY
From Staff Reports
George Barrett will be the new executive director of the Marian Cheek Jackson Center.
Barrett, who has been associate director of the Rosemary Street non-profit for the last four years, will be the Jackson’s Center’s first full-time on-site executive director. He replaces interim director Hudson Vaughan, who will leave the organization next month to attend seminary at Duke Divinity School.
The Jackson Center, named for the historian at St. Joseph C.M.E. church, is dedicated to preserving the future of Chapel Hill’s historically Black communities. It works to inspire “creative community-first development” and build community in the historic Northside and Pine Knolls neighborhoods of Chapel Hill.
