OBITUARIES

Betty Lou Hornaday, 83, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at SECU Jim & Betsy UNC Hospice Home in Pittsboro. She was born in Wilson, NC to the late Royal Stamey Hornaday and Sudie Mae Williams Hornaday. In addition to her parents, Ms. Hornaday was predeceased by her sister, Patricia Ann Hornaday.

Ms. Hornaday, a UNC graduate and avid Tarheel, retired from UNC Memorial Hospital after 42 years of dedicated service as a Cardiopulmonary Technologist with a specialty in Pulmonary. She supervised the Pulmonary Labs at UNC Memorial Hospital and ACC. Betty also was a Phlebotomist utilizing her skills doing blood draws in the early hours before her lab day began. As a volunteer, Betty worked with New Hope Community Rescue Squad for a number of years assisting with emergency calls. Betty was a meticulous quilter and seamstress, enjoyed caring for her flowers and yard and loved her dogs-always having one to accompany her on her walks in her woods.

Ms. Hornaday is survived by her sister, Lynda Kay Reisinger and husband Tom of Lafayette, CO; and cousins, Karen Lance and husband Rick of Asheville, NC, Tony McGuinn and wife of Los Angeles, CA, Martin Hamilton of San Franciso, CA, Roslyn Grasso and husband Buddy of Atlanta, GA, Will Hornaday of Nashville, TN.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 13th at Binkley Memorial Baptist Church in Chapel Hill. The family will have a visitation prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the church. Interment will be held at a later date at the family plot in Fuquay, NC.
