CARRBORO — Carrboro Town Council Member Barbara Foushee is making a run for the town’s top office.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the Carrboro community for the past 5-and-a-half years as a Town Council member and I look forward to doing more if I am elected to serve as Mayor,” Foushee said in a press release. “I want to keep a seat at the local government table as Mayor.”
Foushee’s announcement comes on the heels of sitting Mayor Damon Seils announcement he will not seek reelection last month. Seils will serve through the end of his term this year.
Foushee has served as a council member since 2017 and the first to announce her candidacy for the mayor job. Her announcement cited racial equity, a new comprehensive plan, transit and climate change as high priorities for her campaign.
