Carrboro Police make an arrest in homicide and investigate a sexual assault case

CARRBORO, NC. – Sedgwick Raynard Barnes Jr., age 30, was charged with First Degree Murder for the stabbing death of Kenneth Michael Moseley on the night of August 2, 2023, at Town Commons located at 301 W. Main St. Barnes Jr. is being held in the Orange County Jail with no bond. According to Captain Ryan Daniels of Carrboro Police, the accused has no address and may be unhoused.

The stabbing occurred at approximately 9 p.m. on the night of Aug. 2, 2023, at Town Commons located at 301 W. Main St.  An adult male victim was transported to UNC Hospital, later died from his injuries. The victim has been identified as Kenneth Michael Moseley, 50.

This remains an active investigation and the police are unable to release additional information at this time.

A separate crime occurred at 7:27 p.m on Sunday at the Food Lion at 602 Jones Ferry Road. Carrboro Police Department responded to a report of a subject who assaulted a female.

According to Captain Daniels of the Carrboro police, the assault happened inside of the Food Lion. Officers located the suspect inside the market and identified him as Antione Brooks, 39, of Carrboro. He was charged with one count of Second Degree Forcible Sexual Offense, a felony, and his bond wa set at $20,000.  He is confined in the Orange County Jail.
