Chapel Bill has been here a week – what’s happened so far?

CHAPEL HILL – So far, it has been fun for fans of North Carolina football this off-season as they have landed the most successful coach in NFL history, becoming their college head coach.

The Introductory press conference was a joyous occasion and it was a packed room in the Loudermilk Center at Kenan Stadium.

Chancellor Lee Roberts and Athletic Director Bill Cunningham welcomed Belichick.

They presented him with a short-sleeve hoodie, which was a signature look for him in the NFL.

However, Coach Belichick brought one of his own. It was also a North Carolina hoodie that had belonged to his father. His father, Steve Belichick coached for North Carolina from 1953 to 1955.

Since then, coach Belichick made an appearance at a UNC basketball game last week at the Dean Smith Center.

He was greeted with much fanfare and donned a Roy Williams-esque blue blazer.

Today, UNC Football announced that they have officially hired Belichick’s colleague Mike Lombardi as the North Carolina Football General Manager.

Lombardi has worked with Belichick during his time with the Patriots and has also held various other front-office/scouting roles at the NFL level and in the media.

Of course, results are also needed. Right now that means recruitment for the newest head football coach at UNC. What has he been up to?

About: Kelly is a 6-foot-4, 305-pound offensive lineman who earned all-Patriot league honors last year.

Melkart Abou-Jaoude
Defensive Lineman.
Senior from Delaware.
About: The 6-foot-5, 260-pound defender has two years remaining in eligibility and just earned all-conference honors after recording 6.5 sacks last year. He has gone from a walk-on player to one of Coach Belichick’s first recruits.

Other Updates:

Belichick has managed to retain a few key players for the Heels. Those are:

OL Austin Blaske
OL Aidan Banfield
LB Amare Campbell

He has also hired Andrew Blaylock in a player personnel role. Blaylock has been the assistant athletic director for player personnel at UCF since 2022.

He has also brought on Joe Anile to the player personnel department. Anile was a scout for Belichick with the Patriots.

It is early into his tenure but a staff and roster is starting to develop, along with high hopes for the 2025 season.
