An investigation into reports of a man touching women in the Meadowmont neighborhood led the Chapel Hill Police Department to identify Gamboa Usile Cabrera, 21, of Chapel Hill, as a suspect. On March 28, officers arrested and charged Cabrera with four counts of sexual battery and four counts of assault on a female.

During the investigation, officers learned of a third, similar incident, reported to have occurred on Monday, March 11, in the 100 block of W. Barbee Chapel Road. No injuries were reported in that case.

Cabrera Gamboa’s first appearance in court is scheduled for 9 a.m. on April 15.

Previously, on March 18, Chapel Hill Police Department announced it would increase patrols in the areas of Meadowmont Lane and Sprunt Street. The Department was investigating two reports of a man inappropriately touching women on the Meadowmont Trail near Sprunt Street.
