OBITUARIES

Charlotte Timberlake Battle, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Born in Virginia Beach, VA on November 12, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Comdr. Julian Burton Timberlake Jr., U.S.N. retired, and Charlotte Falconer Jordan Timberlake.

She was preceded into death by her husband of 58 years, Thomas Braswell Battle of Rocky Mount, NC.

Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Battle Robbins and husband, Dr. Edward Todd Robbins; her grandchildren, Charlotte Jordan Robbins Barratt and husband, Patrick Thomas Barratt, and Margaret Falconer Robbins Warren and husband, Scott Bradford Warren; and her four beloved great-granddaughters, Charlotte, Llewellyn, Elizabeth, and Sedley.

Charlotte spent her childhood in Virginia Beach, VA and Miami, FL, and was a graduate of Oldfields School in Sparks Glencoe, MD. As a young bride, she moved with Tommy to Rocky Mount where she joyfully raised their family and served as an active member of the community. Charlotte retired to The Cedars of Chapel Hill where she spent her time building relationships and as a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. For over 25 years, she proudly served North Carolina as the Vice-Regent of the Mount Vernon Ladies Association Board. She was a board member of the Braswell Memorial Library and a dedicated member and volunteer at the Church of the Good Shepherd.

A Celebration of Charlotte’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at 3:00 PM at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 231 N. Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC with The Rev. Philip Zoutendam officiating. A reception will be held in the fellowship hall following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Charlotte’s memory to the Church of the Good Shepherd, 231 N. Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27804, and the Ladies Association of George Washington’s Mount Vernon, 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway, Mount Vernon, Virginia 22121.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary’s Street, Raleigh, North Carolina, 27605.
