OBITUARIES
Dale Alan Owens, 70, of Chapel Hill, NC, passed away on June 23, 2023 at his home. Dale is the son of the late Paul H. Owens and Clara Owens Newson and was born in Syracuse, NY on May 27, 1953.
Dale is survived by: his wife of 37 years Candace “Candy” (Ferguson) Owens; his two children Benjamin “Ben” A. Owens (and Ben’s wife Lindsay Beaty Owens and their children Rainer and Emory) and Candace Abigail “Abby” Owens; his siblings Nancy O. Altobellis (and her husband Cliff Altobellis), Charlene O. Maguire (and her husband John Maguire), Christopher Owens and Lisa Owens; and his brother-in-law J. Daniel Ferguson and his wife Elizabeth “Lib” Ferguson.
Dale was an avid fly fisher and outdoorsman and spent many years visiting his beloved cabin on the Dearborn River in Montana. He found solace and peace in nature, particularly in the mountains. He loved to take his family on outdoor excursions, such as camping trips and river floats, and he enjoyed sharing his love of nature with others. Dale was also a true creative – he was an accomplished oil painter and graphic designer (having attended art school at East Carolina University) as well as a talented musician. He was a self-taught player of multiple instruments and his favorite artists included Tom Petty, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Mercy Me, and many more. He loved books of all genres, Western movies, UNC Tar Heels basketball, and Carolina Hurricanes hockey.
Dale and Candy met and married in North Carolina shortly after he moved to the area from New York City. He was devoted to his wife and children, and he remained close with his siblings throughout his life. He is loved by all and will be greatly missed by so many family members and friends.
