Donald G. Prillaman, age 80, died on October 1st, 2023 at Dubose Health Center in Chapel Hill, NC after nearly a two year battle with cancer. He was born on July 3rd, 1943 in Shreveport, LA to George W. Prillaman, Sr. and Mildred Thorton Prillaman, and was raised in Chapel Hill. He is survived by wife of 49 years, Linda Chotin Prillaman. He is also survived by daughter, Ashley Burke Ullstein, son-in-law H. Peter Ullstein, granddaughter McKay Ullstein and grandson P. Scott Ullstein- all of Martinsville, VA, sister Susan M. Prillaman of Chapel Hill, NC and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by both parents, younger brother, George W. Prillaman, Jr. and granddaughter, Clara I. Ullstein.
He was a long time resident of metro New Orleans before moving to Martinsville, VA in 2006, where he eventually retired after a lifetime career in the insurance industry. In 2017, he relocated to a retirement community, The Cedars of Chapel Hill. He was a graduate of Chapel Hill High School, Castle Heights Military Academy (Lebanon, TN) and the University of North Carolina. While at UNC, he played football and was a member of the 1963 Gator Bowl Championship team. He was also a member of Phi Kappa Alpha social fraternity.
As a youngster, he was active in Scouting and earned the Eagle Scout designation and was a member of the scouting honorary society, Order of the Arrow. He was a veteran of the US Army. He was a past member of the Metairie Country Club and a member of its board of Governors from 1990 to 1996 (President 1995).
A memorial service will take place on Monday October 23rd, 2023 at 11 AM at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 2216 Metairie Road, with a reception to follow at Gayle Hall.
