CARRBORO — A woman has been charged after allegedly causing the death of a motorcycle rider.

Coral Maxwell, 21, of Carrboro, was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle in connection to the May 24 incident on Wednesday. Maxwell allegedly failed to yield right-of-way when turning at the intersection of N.C. Hwy. 54 and Abbey Lane, striking Julius Stuart, 21, of Chapel Hill.

Stuart was transported to UNC Medical Center where he died of his injuries. Maxwell was charged with failure to yield at the scene, but the charge was later upgraded to death by vehicle. Maxwell’s first court date is June 12. A conviction carries a maximum jail sentence of 150 days.
