Staged: New Play Readings series concludes with “The Whirling Dervish” by Anthony Garcia-Copian at The ArtsCenter in Carrboro. “The Whirling Dervish” takes us on a wild-night ride when Dina Manelli, fading Hollywood star, is startled by the sudden intrusion of her uber-fan, Fen. Together, they experience an extraordinary connection which leads to a surprising turn-of-events. Comedy and tragedy careen through a rich, original landscape of language.  A staged reading is a lightly rehearsed script performed for an audience who then offers feedback; the playwright can incorporate changes to ready the play for full production.
