The Chapel Hill-Carrboro School District is pleased to announce that 24 CHCCS middle school students and 25 CHCCS high school students participated in the NC Central All District Band clinic and concert.  One of these students, Sam Grant, also was selected for the high school Honors Jazz Band clinic.  The students were competitively selected through an audition process in January, and participated in the honors clinic Feb. 4-5, 2022.  Sixteen of these students have qualified to audition for All State Band, which will be held at UNC, April 29 – May 1 2022.

Selection for the all-district honors band is a high honor, and an indication of superior musicianship.  The audition process is rigorous, and provides students with the opportunity to learn challenging music and play with an advanced ensemble.  Each year students from CHCCS participate in both the Central NC All District Band and the NC All State Band.  Occasionally, district students qualify for the NCMEA All National Honors Band clinic.

The honor bands are organized by the NC Bandmasters Association, a division of the NC Music Educators Association.  All CHCCS band directors are actively involved in the professional association.  Ryan Ellefsen, the instrumental music director at East Chapel Hill High School, is also the Honors Band Coordinator for the All State Honor Bands.

In addition to the series of regional, state and national honor band clinics, CHCCS students participate in the chorus and orchestra divisions of the NC Music Educators Association honor clinics each year.  CHCCS had six students selected for the NC Honors Chorus in November, and we hope to have students selected for the All State Chorus in the spring.  The district had nine students participate in the All State Orchestra in November.  CHCCS orchestra students also participate in Junior Eastern Regional Orchestra, Eastern Regional Orchestra, and the NC American String Teachers Association All State Festival.
