Multi-Agency Response Contains Fire at Downtown Carrboro Business Location

CARRBORO– An early morning fire caused significant damage to a commercial building on East Main Street, displacing two local businesses.

At approximately 7:40 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, the Carrboro Fire-Rescue Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 405 E. Main Street following reports of heavy smoke and visible flames. Crews arrived on the scene within three minutes to find the building heavily involved in fire, with flames visible through the roof.

Firefighters initiated an immediate response and brought the blaze under control in approximately 20 minutes, successfully containing the fire damage to the single building of origin. The two affected businesses are Public Impact and Gates of Beauty.

Initial damage estimates are approximately $500,000. The building has been condemned due to structural damage.

There were no civilian injuries reported. One firefighter was transported to a local hospital with a minor injury and was subsequently released.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The Chapel Hill Fire Department, White Cross Fire Department, New Hope Fire Department, and the Durham Fire Department assisted the Carrboro Fire-Rescue Department. A total of 50 firefighters responded to the incident. Orange County Emergency Medical Services, the South Orange Rescue Squad, and the Carrboro Police Department provided additional operational support.
