Political candidate filings completed for upcoming Local Elections

CHAPEL HILL / CARRBORO – Municipal elections for the towns of Carrboro and Chapel Hill will take place on November 7, 2023. In addition, a Board of Education election will occur for Chapel Hill – Carrboro City Schools.

The candidate filing period ended at noon on July 21. Carrboro saw only one candidate for mayor (Barbara Foushee), who will run unopposed for her first term. Chapel Hill will also have a new mayor, with two candidates running (Jess Anderson and Adam Searing).

There are five candidates for Carrboro Town Council, with three seats available and 10 candidates for Chapel Hill Town Council, with four seats available.

There are nineteen Chapel Hill – Carrboro City Schools Board of Education candidates, with four seats available. Seven candidates filed on July 20 and three filed on July 21. There were several calls from the community asking people to come forward and run in the final days of the filing period and people responded.
