The Local Reporter sent an inquiry to the Chancellor’s office regarding a petition being circulated by students and citizens to ask the university to take immediate action to establish clear steps for responding to an active shooter on campus. The petition on change.org now has over 1,300 signatures.
The Chancellor’s Office responded today, acknowledging that they received the petition.
“The University and our leadership placed a high priority on communicating with the community throughout this terrible event. During the lockdown, the University followed its protocols and has provided further communication on a regular basis since then, including two press conferences, press releases, a community vigil and other remembrance events, several campus emails from various leaders with information and resources, and a steady flow of information and coverage in The Well,” according to the email from UNC media.
“As with any major incident or emergency on campus, University teams will review lessons learned. As part of this process, feedback from our campus community helps us examine our policies and procedures and determine what improvements can be made,” according to UNC media email to TLR.
