Solid Waste Making Changes

CORONAVIRUS

By Staff Reports

Chapel Hill’s Solid Waste Services is making adjustments to its operations because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Starting Saturday, April 18, the town will stop collecting weekly yard waste and bulky items (e.g., furniture, mattresses, appliances, electronics) until further notice. During this time, residents should not place bulky items or yard waste at the curb.  Orange County’s Waste & Recycling Centers are still accepting these items from residents at no charge.  For hours of operation and locations, check their site or call 919-968-2788.

Solid Waste Services’ employees continue to collect trash, and they need help to minimize risk of exposure to themselves and others. The best way to do that is to make sure trash is tied inside a trash bag and placed inside a trash cart. If possible, sanitize the cart’s handles and lid.
